My Tips for Business Attire with a Twist

Today’s guest blog post is written by one of my current campus ambassadors & former intern, Chandra Robrock. Chandra is a junior at Florida State
University, majoring in Retail Merchandising & Product Development with an interest in public relations. She also runs her own fashion blog: http://www.fsufashiongirl.com

One of the most difficult things to learn as a student is what exactly is business attire? Just a few years ago, this question might have been simple. Pant suits, no jeans, conservative dresses, etc. But now as Generation Y is entering the workforce, the meaning of “business attire” and “casual Friday” really depends on the type of job you are looking for. For instance, since I am in the fashion industry, although it is extremely important to dress appropriately, it is equally important to express your own unique fashion sense. The question is… how do you do this?

There are two brands I turn to constantly when trying to find something to wear for an interview or an internship. These brands cater to not only the party girl but also the working girl. These brands are Alice + Olivia and French Connection.

Alice + Olivia is known for producing fabulous clothing for the fun, young & fashionable girl. What you may not know is that they actually offer a career line. You can find everything from pencil skirts, dress pants, blazers and dresses to meet the needs of nearly any industry. You can shop the collection online here: http://shop.aliceandolivia.com/category/career

The second brand, French Connection, may not carry an actual career line but a lot of the items they carry can cross over from day to night. A dress that I constantly pull for interviews or otherwise fancy occasion is French Connection’s Wendy dress in black: http://usa.frenchconnection.com/product/woman+Collections+dresses/

To find amazing deals on business-appropriate designer clothing, I always recommend Saks Off Fifth. I’ve found amazing deals on both French Connection & Alice + Olivia but many other brands as well. My best deal? A theory pin-striped blazer for only $10!
