Every day, I receive tons of amazing questions via email and my social media networks asking for advice on all things internship-related. Here is my response to a discouraged rising senior who is still looking for an internship for Summer 2013. Good news: companies are still looking!
Question:
Hi Lauren,

We asked our network which blogs -- besides the Intern Queen Blog ;) -- they love reading on the daily. These blogs help us stay in the know about cool events and great opportunities; while educating, entertaining and inspiring us. They even provide a good chuckle here and there! Blogs can be amazing resources for students (and professionals) who are constantly on the go. Here are the Intern Queen Campus Ambassadors' top picks for best blogs to read this summer:
1. Atlantic-Pacific

I'm so excited to be featured on this cool site, Her Agenda. In my interview, I talk about some of the challenges and exciting opportunities that I experienced as Intern Queen transformed from a cute idea into a viable business. Read the entire interview to learn about how I dealt with rejection and transitioned from an intern to a CEO. Of course, I’ll leave you with my best advice for today’s intern! Get the details here: LINK.

1. Be familiar with all company social platforms. You should have knowledge of the company website and any social media handles they use. Try to have a good understanding of the company's clients and the tone they use when describing what they do online. Also, note how they represent themselves on their social media pages.

I'm staying with some friends in South Florida this week. Both are managers in their fields and we're always chatting about best practices and how their employees can perform better. Here are a few tips we put together:
1. Listen to Your Manager. Don't create your own rules. Follow the systems in place.
2. Think Ahead. Predict the Problems. Show Your Team That When a Problem Happens, You Know How to Solve It.
3. Find a Balance Between Being a Team Player and Standing Out on Your Own.
4. Stay Organized But Don't Let The Need to "Stay Organized" Get In The Way Of Getting Things Done.

I am so excited about my book club's new read, Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. I hope you will all read along with me on COPIA, where you can read my notes along the way! I strongly believe this will help us all with our personal and professional goals.

Anyone who's seen me speak knows that my rule of thumb when it comes to staying in touch with employers is that you stay in touch three times per year. I'm not in school anymore, but I still follow this concept of staying in touch three times per year -- fall, spring and summer. You want to get in the habit of building below-the-surface relationships. Find out what drives people. Did your boss just get married? Is your boss going to Hawaii over the summer? Is your boss obsessed with his/her dog?

I get it. Everyone wants to move to Los Angeles after graduation. And why wouldn't you? It does sound amazing! And I did it too! I moved from Florida to California right after graduation - just a few weeks after graduation. And if I can do it, you can do it. Moving to Los Angeles doesn't have to be a dream, you can make it a reality - and you can do it TODAY!
Here are some great tips for those of you wanting to move to Los Angeles after graduation:
