Many students ask me how they can find the right career path for them - there are so many options, sometimes it's hard to know what the best fit is. There are lots of different career quizzes out there, but they can often be lengthy and give you more options than you started with! Luckily, the CFA Institute has crafted a short, interactive career quiz for those interested in the finance industry that asks simple questions about your behavior, skills, and personal preferences.
I know many of you are thinking of starting a blog – or maybe even have your own blog. It can feel like an overwhelming project to get started with. Here are some tips on how to make sure the process runs smoothly:
It's a catch-22: to take on an unpaid internship, you often have to go into debt or rack up money on your credit cards. However, if you don't manage your credit properly, you could prevent yourself from turning that internship into a full-time job. It can be a real dilemma -- employers first ask interns to work for free, then formally check their money management skills before hiring them on as full-time employees.
As you know, my team is constantly scouring the Internet to find articles and ideas that will help you better navigate your internships. This week my digital marketing manager, Lindsey, came across this article on Huffington Post College: "5 Ways to Make the Most of a Disappointing Internship." I love this post because we've ALL been there! Don't throw in the towel just yet -- here's how to cope, and turn a bad situation into a career-booster.
Our campus programs manager, Shayna, is always finding great articles for us on organization and ways to keep it all together. As you know, being organized is never a bad thing! When polled, over 80% of people said their organization led to improved performance at work. Do you have any of these 14 habits of ultra-organized people? Check out The Huffington Post's list!
So you're smack in the middle of your spring internship. If you haven't secured a summer internship yet, you should get that process started! It doesn't have to be a huge chore. In fact, Kailee Smith -- our Intern Queen Campus Ambassador at UCF (my alma mater!) -- recently wrote a piece on how to network for your next internship at your CURRENT one. I loved her tips and wanted to share them with you all. Enjoy!
On Thursday, February 27th, I'll be hosting a business forum with executives from Ford Motor Company, Johnson & Johnson and American Eagle Outfitters as part of the 2014 Ford College Ambassador Challenge! Come out to UC McConomy at 5:00pm to hear hear me talk about my own internship experiences and lead our executives in an informative Q&A about landing and internship and being successful.
Lauren Berger created Intern Queen Inc. in 2009, after successfully completing 15 internships and college and recognizing a need for more internship resources. Her online platform, www.internqueen.com, serves as the home of the business and allows students access to apply for any internship they want free of charge. The site also features daily content on how to make the most of high school, college, and post-grad experiences.
