American Diabetes Association Alabama/Mississippi Programs Internship
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is the nation’s leading voluntary health agency dedicated to the fight against diabetes. Established in 1940, the organization’s primary purpose was to support the medical and professional community. Today, the ADA is a nationally incorporated association dedicated to finding a cure and preventing the devastating consequences the disease has on over 25.8 million individuals with diabetes and 79 million people with pre-diabetes.
• Maintain databases, mailing lists, telephone networks, and other information to facilitate the functioning of specific programs.
• Prepare and distribute health education materials, including reports, bulletins, and visual aids
• Develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain future funding
• Develop and present health education and promotion programs such as training workshops, health fairs, conferences, and school or community presentations.
• Recruit and serve as a liaison to the ADA’s Volunteers and/or Sponsors
• Work with staff and volunteers to collect/solicit in-kind donations for day-of-event
• Assist in managing various program database through data management
Duration: Spring or Summer Semester, 2012
Hours: Minimum of 15 hrs/week
* Currently enrolled as an undergraduate (or recently graduated)
* Candidate must exude professionalism
* Commitment to a flexible work schedule of a minimum of 15 hours per week and a duration of a minimum of 1 semester
* Excellent writing, research and interpersonal communication skills
* Experience with Microsoft Office applications, web and social media
* Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced and time-sensitive work environment
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Interest or personal connection to diabetes is desirable, but not mandatory
* Ability to lift 25 lbs.
