American Diabetes Associtation Alabama/Mississippi Chapter Special Events Intern
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is the nation’s leading voluntary health agency dedicated to the fight against diabetes. Established in 1940, the organization’s primary purpose was to support the medical and professional community. Today, the ADA is a nationally incorporated association dedicated to finding a cure and preventing the devastating consequences the disease has on over 25.8 million individuals with diabetes and 79 million people with pre-diabetes.
The Special Events Intern’s specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
* Help in planning and implementing the three special events.
* Assist with phone calls and mailings to past and current participants, potential sponsors/volunteers.
* Assist with cold-calling and donation asks.
* Assist with day-of-event volunteer recruitment and management (includes attending event)
* Attend committee meetings when possible.
* Attend promotional events as necessary- occasional night or weekend hours.
* Utilize social networks to promote events.
* Other duties as assigned.
Duration: Spring or Summer Semester 2012
Hours: Schedule is flexible, but must be able to commit to at least 15 hours per week.
* Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
* Excellent writing, research and interpersonal communication skills
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, internet and e-mail
* Basic design skills (flyers/handouts, etc) are desirable
* Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously
* Attention to detail and accountability
* Interest or personal connection to diabetes is desirable, but not mandatory
* Must have an automobile and ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
* Must pass background check.
