Step Up Womens Network Non-Profit Internship

Step Up Women’s Network is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girls. Through teen empowerment programs for underserved girls, women's health education and advocacy, professional mentorship and social networking opportunities, we educate and activate our members to ensure that women and girls have the tools they need to create a better future.

Internship Description: 

Opportunity
Step Up is seeking a highly-driven, energetic intern to assist in the execution of Step Up’s empowerment programs for underserved high-school age girls from three Chicago-area schools. The intern will have an extraordinary opportunity to gain experience in many facets of direct service programming and nonprofit management including:
• Assisting in the planning and facilitation of after-school, in-school and Saturday programming focused on College & Career Development and Self-Esteem & Leadership
• One-on-one mentoring with Step Up teens
• Interfacing with Step Up’s varied constituents, including teen girls, school staff, parents, and volunteers

Commitment
Part-time internship for a minimum of 10 - 12 weeks. Internship will ideally begin in mid-August and continue through mid-December. Intern work hours are between 10am – 6pm, minimum 2 days or 16 hours per week. The position is unpaid but class credit is offered.

Step Up Women's Network

Bio: 

Step Up Women’s Network is a national nonprofit membership organization dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girl through four areas: direct service programs for underserved teen girls, professional mentorship and development for women, women’s health education and advocacy, and social networking.

Internship Description: 

Position Summary
Step Up Women’s Network seeks volunteers/student interns to assist the Program Manager with the overall growth and strategic direction of the organization in Chicago as well as to assist with the day-to-day administration, operations, and logistics. Specific duties include:
• Drafting and producing communication/promotional/press materials for Step Up programs and events
• Support Program Manager in conducting membership and community outreach initiatives; Step Up Brown Bag lunches, Step Up Member Welcome Meeting, Potential Members and other related trainings
• Design compelling and creative PowerPoint presentations that capture the mission and work of Step Up
• Basic administrative duties - making phone calls and writing letters/emails relating to membership, events, and programs with members, donors, potential sponsors, and other program partners
• Research membership growth initiatives, targeted marketing, cause marketing and other communication initiatives
• Conduct demographic research related to urban professional women b/t the ages of 21 and 45
• Prepare materials for volunteer, fundraising, professional development, or other Step Up events
• Assist with event production
• Assist with meeting preparation for the Step Up PR/Membership and Women’s Health Committees
• Researching fundraising and sponsorship opportunities
• Manage prospect, membership, and business information and materials in the Step Up database and by other means
• Handling out-of-office errands, as necessary

Additional Info: 

The intern positions are open to be filled immediately for a minimum 6 month period and are extendable. A minimum of two days or 20 hours per week is required. Some evening hours may be necessary for events. The position is unpaid.

Qualifications
Graduate-level students are preferred; however, Step Up will consider candidates studying for their bachelor’s degree or with 2+ years of office experience. The selected candidates will have the following additional qualities:

Links Hall

Bio: 

Links Hall’s mission is to encourage artistic innovation and public engagement by maintaining a facility and providing flexible programming for the research, development and presentation of new work in the performing arts. Links Hall has worked in the same Lakeview-based facility developing innovative and supportive artistic programming since 1979. We present a wide ranging program of local, national and international dance and performance, and provide important services to artists. The intent is for artists and audiences to develop enthusiasm, lively discussion, and context for dance and performance as complex and meaningful cultural expression.

Internship Description: 

The Marketing Intern adheres to and assists in enhancing Links Hall’s marketing procedures, to increase and diversify the audience base attending performances and workshops at Links Hall. Duties include maintaining and enhancing marketing procedures, distributing press releases and PSAs to Links Hall’s press lists via fax and e-mail, interfacing with press contacts to provide them with updated and/or additional information regarding upcoming events, connects with local businesses to enhance partnerships and distribution of marketing materials, communicates with volunteers and community members about opportunities to support Links Hall, managing volunteer projects related to marketing, and assisting in general office duties/administration and special projects, including the maintenance of mailing list and press list databases.
