Bio: 

KEEN is a national, volunteer-led nonprofit organization that provides one-to-one recreational and sports opportunities for children and young adults with mental and physical disabilities at no cost to their families or caregivers. KEEN provides children with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome or other disabilities the opportunity to play, shoot hoops, kick a soccer ball, work out at a fitness club, bowl, swim, sing or dance with help, as needed, from volunteer coaches.

KEEN Mission Statement:
KEEN's mission is to foster the self-esteem, confidence, skills and talents of its athletes through non-competitive activities. By pairing each athlete one-to-one with a trained volunteer coach, KEEN helps young people facing even the most significant challenges meet their individual goals. The programs provide the athletes with exercise, opportunities for friendship, and the sense of belonging to a group; the parents or caregivers with much needed respite and resources; and hundreds of volunteers with increased understanding about the needs of people with disabilities.

Additional Info: 

• Computer programming experience (such as, but not restricted to, C++ and Java); Graphic Design experience (such as, but not restricted to, Adobe Photoshop); Eagerness to work with people also desired
• Design and develop a low content computer game and game interface for KEEN LA’s annual benefit fundraiser. Other possible responsibilities include maintaining KEEN LA’s internet media outreach including its web, Facebook, and Twitter pages.
• Attend KEEN sessions to gain a greater understanding of the organization

• Help promote KEEN in the greater Los Angeles community
o Assist with reaching out to local universities, businesses and community organizations to recruit athletes, volunteers and sponsors
• Assist with maintenance of volunteer database
• Assist with registration at KEEN sports sessions
• Update website context
• Provide assistance in grant and foundation research
• Help coordinate KEEN recreational programming sessions

StandUp2Cancer Internship

Bio: 

Stand Up 2 Cancer an entertainment based non profit is looking for an all star marketing intern to help with our digital marketing campaign leading up to our September 10th live broadcast.

Looking for college students (preferably Seniors) with concentration in marketing, communication, journalism and media.Candidate must have a very good understanding of basic marketing principles. Candidate should understand social media - Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter, Digg and other social media circles.
Outgoing personality and passion for engaging in online conversations.

Great writing skills and ability to create compelling tweets, status updates, facebook posts and comments.Understanding of e-blasts and blogs helpful.

Additional Info: 

Intern duties would include errands, updating posts, phone calls. Intern expected to work 3-5 days per week. College credit available.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Tampa Suncoast Chapter Internship

Bio: 

LLS is celebrating 60 years of helping patients live longer better lives. Our mission is to find cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and to provide education and services for patients with these diseases and their families.

LLS funds more blood cancer research than any other voluntary health agency. Many LLS-supported advances help beyond the blood cancer patients for whom they were first developed.

Only LLS provides individualized information to patients and their caregivers about blood cancers, resources, treatments and other critical issues, from live specialists in its Information Resource Center.

LLS provides financial support and co-pay assistance to patients with blood cancers, helping them access treatments and drugs they might not otherwise be able to afford.

LLS-funded researchers are exploring new ways to predict and lessen the adverse long-term effects of blood cancer treatments.

Basic Function: Assists the campaign team in coordinating special events logistics and promotion for two major fundraising campaigns

Prepares event related correspondence and reports.

Maintains a working knowledge of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society mission and its programs to address them.

Step Up Women's Network Internship

Bio: 

Step Up Women’s Network is a national nonprofit membership organization dedicated to strengthening community resources for women and girl through four areas: direct service programs for underserved teen girls, professional mentorship and development for women, women’s health education and advocacy, and social networking.

Position Summary
Step Up Women’s Network seeks volunteers/student interns to assist the Managing Director with the overall growth and strategic direction of the organization in Chicago as well as to assist with the day-to-day administration, operations, and logistics. Specific duties include:
• Drafting and producing marketing/promotional/press materials for Step Up programs and events
• Preparing materials for volunteer, fundraising, professional development, or other Step Up events
• Making phone calls and writing letters/emails relating to membership, events, fundraising and programs with members, donors, potential sponsors, and other program partners
• Assisting with event production
• Assisting with meeting preparation for the Step Up Board of Directors and Committees
• Researching fundraising and sponsorship opportunities
• Managing prospect, membership, and business information and materials in the Step Up database and by other means
• Writing articles for the monthly newsletter
• Handling out-of-office errands, as necessary
• All other office administrative support and special projects as needed

Fill Date and Commitment
This a four month position from January through April 2010. A minimum of two days or 20 hours per week is required. Some evening hours may be necessary for events. The position is unpaid.

GlamourGals Internship

Bio: 

Our local mission is to foster intergenerational relationships between teen girls and elderly women living in senior homes through monthly facials and makeovers.

Our national mission is to create the structure and provide the resources that encourage compassionate teen leadership through local intergenerational programming.
In 2000, Rachel Doyle started the first GlamourGals chapter in Commack, NY as a passionate, motivated 17-year-old looking to honor her grandmother. Today, Ms. Doyle is GlamourGals’ full-time President, managing the chapters while also leading the fundraising effort through collaboration with the Executive Board, Advisory Board, and Board of Directors of GlamourGals. One of the key factors contributing to the success and efficiency of the programs growth has been the utilization of technology.

Bio: 

The mission of Students Run L.A. is to challenge at-risk secondary students to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved health by providing them with a truly life-changing experience: The training for and completion of The City of Los Angeles Marathon. We work with middle and high school students.

Internship Description: 

We are a nonprofit, and our staff is very small in comparison to the number of students we serve. All the teachers or leaders that train with our students are volunteers. Our website is www.srla.org.
