The Magazine Antiques (Brant Publications) - Editorial Internship

Internship Description: 

Interns will work on the following projects: Cataloguing new books entering the magazine’s research library, organizing and maintaining the books in the collection, and assisting in the proofreading process for editorial articles and columns when necessary. This internship will provide educational opportunities combined with experience of working with knowledgeable editors in a professional publishing environment. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills and have an interest in Art History, Publishing, or Library Studies.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: ART HISTORY/ENGLISH AND JOURNALISM STUDENTS PREFERRED. Only Senior undergraduates will be considered. Graduate students preferred. This internship may qualify for academic credit. Please check with your school.

The Magazine Antiques (Brant Publications) Advertising Internship

Bio: 

Since its founding over 85 years ago, THE MAGAZINE ANTIQUES has been consistently recognized as the authority by serious collectors, dealers, and other readers interested in gaining detailed knowledge and understanding of the world of fine arts and antiques.

Editorially, the magazine’s subjects can range from painting and photography to furniture and ceramics, and cover periods from the 20th century to antiquity.

Internship Description: 

Interns in the Advertising Department of The Magazine Antiques will aid the Advertising Assistant and other Department members. Job responsibilities include compiling media kits, sending promotional mailings and materials to clients, delivering the magazine to private clubs in New York, maintaining competitive analysis studies of other art publications, and regularly maintaining a database of contacts. In addition, they will perform administrative functions for the Advertising Sales Representatives. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail and an interest in advertising and/or art history.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: ADVERTISING/ART HISTORY/ COMMUNICATIONS MAJORS PREFERRED. This internship may qualify for academic credit. Please check with your school.

Working closely with the Advertising Sales and Marketing staff, interns will be directly involved in several aspects of magazine publishing. Responsibilities will include coordinating special mailings, researching potential clients, assisting with the creation of presentations for sales staff, assisting with updating, maintaining and distributing media kits contents, as well as some general administrative work. Must be motivated, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Photoshop and basic scanning. Internship Description: 

The primary responsibility of interns in the Editorial Department will be to transcribe the interviews that appear in the magazine. Other duties of high importance include up-to-the-minute media research (this will include contact with publicists), updating and maintaining databases and filing systems, and critical written evaluations of current and upcoming releases in all areas of popular culture. Secondary tasks involve idea development, as well as general office and administrative work. Candidates must have strong typing, English and communication skills. Transcribing experience is a definite plus, as are knowledge of proofreader’s marks, Microsoft Word and American pop culture (film, music, art, literature and fashion).

Human Resources Interns

Office Services Management Interns

Candidates who are interested in Business Administration/Business Management and have a desire to learn about the business side of magazine publishing will gain experience assisting the Office Services Department. The position requires candidates who are motivated, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent typing skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel, as well as excellent communication skills are essential. The position offers exposure to the various aspects of Office Services: assisting in product research, organizing business contact databases and files, administrative tasks, and interfacing with other departments.

The position offers exposure to the inter-workings of the entire art, editorial and advertising production process and the opportunity to work simultaneously on three separate publications. The right candidate will be detail-oriented and highly organized. MAC skills are a definite plus. Knowledge of art and pop culture is also beneficial. Please be willing to commit to at least three days a week.

Publisher’s Interns

Professional, detail-oriented, energetic and highly organized candidates will be chosen as interns for the Publisher’s office. Working with the Executive Assistant to the Owner and Publisher, interns will be exposed to the advertising, editorial, and business operations of all three magazines. Tasks include general administrative work, research assignments, and independent projects. Qualified candidates will also be given the opportunity to handle assignments in different departments within the company. There is no editing/writing in this internship¬¬.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: GPA 3.5+, some office experience, and excellent communications skills required; interest in art history, fashion, and pop culture a plus. Proficiency with Word and Excel a must.

We would prefer a full-time intern, as we have a small staff and therefore rely on our interns to perform a variety of tasks relating to the creative development of each issue; image scanning, maintaining art files, and basic design duties (relative to experience).
