In this modern tech-saturated world, the “appmosphere” is filled with hundreds of food related applications for your iPhone or android. How do you know which apps are the best? I found some answers last summer when I traveled the United States with my sister for six weeks. Living out of a van and waking up in a new city every morning made it difficult to know where and what to eat. We were always searching for restaurants (or Starbucks) in unfamiliar cities. After trying out a plethora of food-related apps, we discovered three must haves.
1. Urban Spoon: This app will show you nearby restaurants when you shake your device. You can search for specific places based on what you’re craving, see which restaurants your friends like, and even make reservations.
2. Fooducate: The name says it all. This app educates you about food! You can scan the barcode of an item and it will tell you nutritional information for that product. It will give the product a grade based on how healthy it is, and also suggest healthier alternatives. (Photographed above)
3. Starbucks: This is a great app even for those who are not coffee drinkers. Starbucks offers non-coffee drinks as well as snacks, sandwiches, and other on-the-go items. The app allows you to register gift cards, locate stores near you, and even enter the exact drink you want so you can find nutritional information.
So next time you’re wondering what to eat or where you can find what you’re craving, download these three FREE apps and indulge!
