1) Create a timeline for your projects: Your summer internship will be filled with various projects from your manager. In order to manage your duty as intern and still enjoy your summer, its important to strategize how you will complete your task. When you’re given a project, write down all the steps that need to be done and give yourself reasonable deadlines to complete each part. This prevents you from having to take work home often because you procrastinated on getting the project done or underestimated how much work it would be.
2) Network with Other Interns: Most times, there will be other interns throughout your company. Take the time to introduce yourself and get to know them. Your fellow interns are an important start to building your network. In addition, its nice to have someone to eat lunch with or hang out with after work. As long as you get your work done, its okay to have a little fun.
3) Explore the City: If you’re in a new city for your internship, get out and see the sites. Visit museums, see plays and explore what the town has to offer. Its all apart of the experience!
4) Participate in Company Sponsored Events: Most companies will have company/department wide events such as happy hour, community service, lunch and learns etc. As an intern, its important to meet as many people in the company as you can and make a good impression. Take advantage of these networking events. Be careful with happy hours however. You always want to portray yourself in the best light.
