Cool Activities for LA Interns

This blog was written by AnnMarie Williams, our Campus Ambassador from California State University-Long Beach.

Los Angeles is a great place to intern since there are so many opportunities in the LA area. If you are in LA for the semester or a few weeks you will find there are many fun things to do and you may not know where to start. Here are several free or relatively inexpensive activities to do while you are in the City of Angels.

Grauman’s Chinese Theatre: This free attraction has been extremely popular since the 1920’s. You can see the hand and footprints of some of your favorite celebrities imprinted in cement. It is steps away from the Hollywood and Highland Shopping Center and The Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Visit Venice Beach: Venice is home to many local street artists and entertainers. You can check out Muscle Beach or just people watch. Consider checking out “First Fridays” which is a fun festival held the first Friday of each month.

Rodeo Drive: Window shop at this famous Beverly Hills shopping strip. It is known for its designer labels and boutiques.

LA Fashion District: This is a great place to find good deals on clothing and fashion accessories. Come ready to wheel and deal and make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

Visit the Hollywood Sign: Unfortunately you cant get up close and personal with this famous landmark, but you can get some great photos of yourself with the sign.

My favorite photo location: From Franklin Avenue in Hollywood, go north on Beachwood Drive; turn left at Ledgewood Drive and twist and wind uphill. Then go right at the three-way intersection onto Deronda Drive.

Go to a television show taping. Have you ever dreamed of seeing Chelsea Handler or Dr. Phil in person? There are many shows that are filmed in LA in font of live audiences. Each show has different procedures for requesting tickets and their websites will have more information.

These are just a few fun things you will want to visit and do as an intern in Los Angeles!
