I&m a rising junior attending Howard University. I am majoring in journalism and minoring in business administration. I am currently not sure exactly what I want to do with it. I just know that I love to write. I have gained experience in radio, print, and maintaining social media outlets. Do you think this will affect my chance of getting certain internships or jobs in the future? Should I try to figure out what I want to do and focus on that?
A: It&s okay to now know exactly what you want to do after graduation. In fact, most people don&t have a clue what they want to do after graduation. If you love to write, that can go quite a long way. Perhaps a good field to start in would be journalism. You could try an internship with a blog, magazine, or newspaper. You might also be able to put those writing skills to work through public relations and writing press releases. All of the experience you&ve mentioned (radio, print, social media) is great and will only help when you go after future jobs. Everything you&ve mentioned is within the communications space - so it&s all somewhat relevant. At your next internship, ask your internship coordinator if you can concentrate on enhancing your writing skills. Don&t stress - you are doing the right thing and you will figure out what you want to do. Keep trucking along :)
