I answer 8 Frequently Asked Questions

A few months ago I did a presentation with the PRSSA club at James Madison University. The students asked me anything they wanted via Twitter. The group of students were fantastic and had so many great questions. I wanted to make sure we shared some of the conversation with the rest of our Intern Queen audience. Here’s 8 questions they asked (and my answers) from our Q&A. Enjoy!

1. Q: @InternQueen Do you plan to write a third book? #IQOnCampus

A: Yes, I’m just not 100% sure what that new book will be. But trust me, I’m always cooking up something! More details to come!

2. Q: @InternQueen what is the most rewarding part about running the Intern Queen? #IQonCampus

A: The most rewarding part is getting to not only help young people get from where they are to where they want to be but also to watch them take my advice and land their dream jobs. I’ve been doing this since 2009 and I’ve had the privilege of watching so many young people succeed.

3. Q: What are some companies that you know of that offer brand ambassadorships?! @InternQueen #IQoncampus

A: SO many! We work with companies like Michael Kors, Capezio, Kaplan, Zico, Pacifica, Nudestix and more to help them find great brand ambassadors. There’s also great opportunities with brands like Express, Coca Cola, American Eagle, and more! Send us an email to Support@internqueen.com and we can share more with you!

4. Q: @InternQueen what is one thing that can make someone stand out in an interview? #IQonCampus

A: Showing that you’ve done your homework – you understand both the company and the position – and you are ready, 100% willing, and passionate about the work.

5. Q: How can we stand out DURING our internship? @InternQueen #IQonCampus

A: Walk in every single day proving that you are consistent and as great as you were on day #1. Network internally – meet everyone – help everyone – go above and beyond. And if you want to work at the company one day? Communicate that politely and professionally to those around you.

6. Q: @InternQueen If you are set in stone about a specific field you want to go into, should you still be open to every field of PR? #IQonCampus

A: When you first start interning – go broad. Every experience is going to teach you something. Perhaps you want to work in celebrity PR but you intern in corporate PR – that will be fantastic experience. As you continue along in your internship journey and get some experience under your belt – focus on exactly what you want to go into after college.

7. Q: @InternQueen What would you be doing if you weren't doing Intern Queen? #IQonCampus

A: I’d probably be working in business development for a media company or in the branding/licensing world.

8. Q: @InternQueen What tips do you have for being confident in an interview? #IQonCampus

A: Solid preparation will cure all nervousness. Do your homework – not just before submitting the application but before the interview. Don’t just review the company website – review the job description – google the company and find any recent news articles. Know as much as you possibly can before walking into the interview.
