Internship Hot Seat: Interview with an Advertising Intern
/ 7 years ago
This blog was written by Hillary, our campus ambassador from Virginia Tech.
Brittany Hall (@BrittanyHall45), a senior Marketing student at Virginia Tech, spent this past summer interning in New York City. Not only did she get to experience living in one of the greatest cities in the world, but she also was able to gain experience by interning with BBDO. For those who have not heard of BBDO, you most likely see some form of advertising produced by them on a daily basis. Needless to say, it was an amazing internship opportunity that Brittany readily accepted. Upon completing her internship in August, I sat down with Brittany to get a better understanding of her internship experience:
HP: Describe some of your typical days interning for BBDO.
BH: At BBDO, I never had to get coffee for someone. Typically, I would work on PowerPoints or research. It was awesome to be able to gain beneficial insights from a great team. On a fun note, Fridays at BBDO are called &Bagel Friday&. Orange juice and reduced fat cream cheese were usually the first items to go, so the other interns and I would always arrive extra early on these days to get the best breakfast options.
HP: What is the most beneficial thing you learned from your internship?
BH: I learned the importance of writing in the business and advertising world. At first, I thought everything needed to be very extensive and structured. I soon learned how to make my writing more concise, so it was ultimately more effective.
HP: Is there anything you would do different when approaching your internship?
BH: I would definitely have taken an advertising class beforehand. My interest for the advertising field was developed even before my college career, but a class would have been very useful. With a stronger background in advertising, I would have been less nervous about my lack of experience.
