Summer is quickly coming to an end and it is time to start searching for your fall internship! Here’s your internship preparation to do list so you make sure you blow everyone away on your first day.
Read Up—You got the gig, but you better make sure you know exactly what’s going on with the company before your first day. Follow the company you’re working with on Facebook, Twitter, their company website, but also make sure you Google the company to see what’s been going on in the news with them. If you’re in a niche industry like I am, make sure you can have an educated conversation about what’s going on in the industry with the CEO in case you run into each other in the break room. I’m working in sports this summer so I’ve been reading everything I can about golf so I know the ins and outs of what’s going on!
Make an Expectation List—When I interviewed, I was given a huge list of responsibilities and projects that I would need to have a handle on this summer. The other day I went through and made a note of concepts I need to brush up on, for example buzz marketing, and past projects of the company that are relevant. Go into your internship with an idea of what you’d like to do and accomplish this summer. Use every bit of information that you can to prepare yourself.
Primp and Polish—If you need another excuse to go shopping, make sure your summer attire is appropriate for your internship. Depending on the industry, you’ll be expected to meet a certain standard. Ask your fellow interns what they’re wearing this summer and try to remember the outfits you saw around the office during your interview. Then treat yourself to a little celebratory internship shopping!
