A couple of weeks ago I spoke to Aileen, also known as Lavendaire for her podcast. We talked about some important tips and tricks for successfully landing internships or jobs.
We think that it’s important to remember to always cast a large net when you’re applying to a job or internship. I know it’s easy to put all of your eggs in one basket because you get excited about the opportunity and it seems that it will work out perfectly. The problem with putting all of your energy into one opportunity is that it may not work out. Honestly, the first job or internship you apply for, you probably won’t get.
That being said, don’t get discouraged. I’ve heard “no” a lot in my line of work and it hasn’t stopped me. Cast a large net by applying to lots of opportunities that interest you. If you are proactive and apply to multiple jobs, you may even get to be highly selective and turn some offers down.
We both agree that the best way to set yourself up for success is to have options. I can’t emphasize this enough. Whether you’re applying for internships, applying to your first “real-world” job, or even if you’re jumping careers, ALWAYS have options - it’ll set you up for success.
