About AOL

At AOL we’re focused on radically redefining the world of online communications. We are transforming how people around the globe connect with information, entertainment and one another by bringing together award winning journalists and innovative technologies to create rich and engaging consumer experiences. We look for people who are exceptionally imaginative, collaborative, and truly excited about our mission - to inform, entertain and connect the world.

Requirements/Necessary Skills for Recruitment:

Do you want to work in Cloud computing? Do you want to know what a Cloud even is? Do you want to make the Internet better?

We’re looking for Bar Raisers on campus to help us. We need free spirits and straight shooters. Creatives and critics. Nerds with nerve. People who love the Internet, but can see its cracks… and future, too. We are working on very large scale infrastructure with a purpose.

Software Engineer/Computer Science Interns

We’re looking for people who are passionate about writing code and about solving problems. Students who wake up excited about development, testing and documentation. Students who fall asleep at night dreaming of ways to enhance existing software and user interfaces. We want people who aren’t scared of hardware and operations. We want people who care deeply about their work and bring fresh ideas to help us beat the internet.

What we look for:

People who crave the excitement and pace of a constantly evolving business, and bring a positive, enthusiastic approach to work and life. If you are passionate about what you do and the points below describe you – we need to talk.

Tech Savvy

You understand common web optimization and coding standards and apply them when needed.

You have experience creating and maintaining websites you are proud to show off.

You consider troubleshooting one of your ‘gifts’ and enjoy resolving issues.

You have experience and knowledge with any of the following: Xen, Linux, RabbitMQ, Perl, HTML, Java, Javascript, jQuery, C, C++, PHP

You aren’t afraid to discuss hardware and datacenter technologies? SAS vs MLC vs FLASH? Core to Memory ratios? ATOM processors? PDUs, Racks

Self Motivated

You can work independently, but don’t snarl at people when they come by to chat.

You proactively look for ways to make a difference and require limited hand-holding.

You have proven to be flexible and adaptable to fast change.

You have an insatiable desire to learn new things and a practical desire to apply them.

Take one for the team

You are a collaborator – you like people, people like you – and you can work effectively across cultures and personalities.

You can communicate with techs and non-techs verbally and in black and white.

You’re curious – and care how your team’s activities impact others and the big picture.

You love breaking down a problem and thinking through creative solutions – and you aren’t afraid to speak up when something isn’t working.
