Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, one of the world’s leading auctioneers and appraisers, is pleased to offer internships during the fall, spring and summer terms in our Chicago, IL office. Interns complete a semester working within departments relating to their area of study or interest, including Fine Books and Manuscripts, Fine Art, Fine Furniture and Decorative Arts, Luxury Couture and Accessories, Fine Jewelry and Timepieces, Marketing, Business Development, and Business Operations. The structure of the internship allows for exposure to every aspect of the auction house in order to understand how the departments work together. Interns attend weekly meetings to gain insight from employees working in various roles and departments within Leslie Hindman Auctioneers and develop business acumen.
Intern responsibilities vary from day to day and depend on where each consignment department is in the auction process. Over the course of the year, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers conducts nearly 50 live auctions in different collecting categories. In addition to providing auction estimates, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers offers appraisal services for insurance, tax and donation purposes. To provide a general description of intern responsibilities, interns may help with projects such as maintaining mailing lists, updating contact information in the database, research on items being consigned, assisting with condition report requests, assisting the photography department with photographing lots for use on the website, and in catalogues and advertisements, typing listings for appraisals, organizing marketing materials and catalogues, entering consignments into the database, tagging items, assisting clients when in Leslie Hindman Auctioneers’ galleries for previews, working in all live and online auctions, analyzing and recording results of sale for other auction houses, researching auction records for the hundreds of potentials received each month, organizing files, and other tasks as they arise.
