People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 3 million members and supporters.
PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, and other “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals.
PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.
Who is peta2?
peta2 is an animal rights group that motivates young people to use their voices for animals. We give people the resources to cut out dissection at their schools and to spread the word about fashion designers who haven't heard that fur is dead. We also stand up to fast-food giants that scald birds to death. If cruelty to animals is taking place, you can bet that peta2 will be there trying to stop it. And the tour crew is hard at work, reaching out at schools and at concerts and other events.
Throughout this internship, you'll be paired with a peta2 staff member who'll act as your mentor. You'll travel the country and learn how to have an impact on young people while seeing how we represent the peta2 program at outreach events. You will learn about various animal rights issues and how to answer those tough questions people ask. It'll take some practice, but you'll learn how to deliver a strong message against cruelty to animals. You'll help inspire others to get active by participating in peta2's mobile texting campaigns, distributing literature, and watching animal rights videos. You'll have the experience of approaching concert-goers to put your knowledge to the test, and your mentor will help guide you in improving your outreach ability through nightly recaps.
Your internship will be spent traveling all over the U.S. and possibly north of the border, so only apply if you're able to travel to Canada and you're prepared to travel for up to three months at a time. We have a minimum age requirement of 21 years for this intern position, and you must be a careful driver with a clean driving record of at least three years with no major violations in the last five years. Another "must" is some vegan power! We pass out a TON of literature throughout the program, and we have to carry it! You need to be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis. As you've probably gathered by now, you'll be chatting with the public, so you should support PETA's philosophy and be comfortable advocating PETA's positions on issues.
Besides the great learning experience, some other perks of this internship are that you'll get to travel to multiple cities and states and maybe even Canada. On top of that, interns will receive three vegan meals on days of events and a weekly stipend of $350.
