Step Up is a nonprofit membership organization that believes all girls should have the chance to fulfill their potential. We propel girls from under-resourced communities to fulfill their potential by empowering them to be confident, college-bound, career-focused, and ready to join the next generation of professional women. Our teen programs include:
after-school programs paired with evening/weekend mentorship events
9th + 10th grade curriculum focuses on building confidence
11th + 12th grade curriculum focuses on college + career exploration
group mentoring model ensures girls connect with a variety of professional women role models
-With the Program Manager’s guidance, the part-time Teen Programs -Intern will support many facets of Step Up’s direct service programming, including:
-Assisting in the planning and facilitation of after-school, in-school and -Saturday programming focused on Confidence, College Readiness & Career Development.
-One-on-one and group mentoring with Step Up teens
-Interacting and facilitating communication between teen girls, school staff, parents, and volunteers
-Understanding and managing data collection
-Passion for women’s social issues and interest in delivering quality educational, enriching experiences to girls
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with a variety of groups, including school administrations and volunteers
-Demonstrated competency working with ethnically diverse and under resourced communities
-Strong sense of integrity, commitment and initiative
-High level of organization and the ability to multi-task.
-Ability to travel to the Step Up office and partner schools in and around downtown Los Angeles: Leimert Park, Boyle Heights, Atwater Village, etc.
-Willingness to work some weekends and evenings
-Valid driver’s license and insurance or other reliable form of transportation
-Up to date proof of negative TB screening (Step Up can support in acquisition)
-Ability to pass a background check (Step Up can support in acquisition)
-Facilitation experience working with youth preferred
-Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
-Proficiency in CRM data management tools (specifically Salesforce) preferred
-Mastery of Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Program Schedule (flexibility available for you to plug in how your schedule permits)
Start Date: August 11, 2014
Training: August 11-17 (specific dates within TBD)
After School Sessions: Starting August 18
Day & Time:
Tuesday, alternating between 12noon and 5:30 to be given in advance
Occasional evenings & Saturdays, to be planned in advance
This internship will run from August-December, with the potential to extend December through June.
Intern work hours are between 10:00am – 5:30pm, with a minimum of 3 days or at least 15 hours per week.
This is an unpaid internship, with the option to earn college credit
