While many of us interns are preparing to head to New York City, some of us may be wondering how to stay in shape and not fall victim to the Big Apple’s delicious pizza and bakeries. Jess Underhill, the writer behind the blog, fitchickinthecity.com, is here to guide us all. Jess was kind enough to answer a few quick questions for us. All of her other fitness advice is already listed on her blog.
Q: In your opinion, what exercise burns the highest number of calories the quickest?
Q: Where is your favorite place to workout outdoors in the city?
A: The bridle path in Central Park
Q: Where is your favorite place to workout indoors in the city?
A: It's a toss up between Physique 57 and Soul Cycle. It totally depends on my mood.
Q: What is your best advice for pre and post workout habits?
A: Before a workout never underestimate the importance of warming up. Your body needs to be prepped for movement and the workout is more efficient if you take the extra time to warm-up.
For both before and after a workout you have to make sure you are fueling your body properly. Too little food, too much food or just the wrong foods for your body can make for a horrible workout.
Post workout get in the habit of stretching is important. Not only is it great for injury prevention, but it can be a time to cool-down from the workout and give you a little bit of time to regroup both physically and mentally for what you have next on your schedule for the day.
