This is a book review of the fabulous new book Job Searching with Social Media for Dummies by one of our fabulous Campus Ambassadors!
Job Searching with Social Media for Dummies is a must-read by all. I would especially recommend this book to recent high school graduates and college students. This book is very helpful when it comes to searching for the perfect internship, finding a summer job, part time job while in school, etc. After reading the first chapter, I was sold.
Each chapter gives insightful and highly detailed ways on helping readers land their dream job or at least a job to get some spending money. One of the chapters that stood out to me was chapter seven and it talked about maintaining your online reputation. I never really thought too deep about possible employers googling me on the World Wide Web but in reality some choose this option. Yes a resume gives the employer a look into whom you are but there are things that you can hide and tweak. However, the things that you put online (Facebook posts, twitter updates, etc.) can be accessed by potential employers. This chapter basically explains how to market yourself in a positive way without completely changing who you are.
`Other chapters in the book talk about personal branding 101, online blogging, using social media towards your advantage, updating your resume and so much more. Again, I think this is a must read for everyone out there. This book should be placed on the book list for college freshman seminar classes.
