Making the Most of Your Internship Interview
This blog is written by Hillary, our campus ambassador from Virgina Tech.
Recently, I was lucky enough to get an interview with the digital
advertising agency of my dreams, with the opportunity to be a digital
media intern. I was ecstatic to find out I had landed the interview,
but now I had to impress them in person. Since I was incredibly
nervous, I reached out to professionals I knew in search of advice for
how to impress my interviewer. Out of all of the advice I received, I
believe these tips truly helped me make the most of my interview, and
ultimately got me the internship:
1) Be confident (even if you&re not)- Showing your interviewer that
your confident will make them believe in your abilities more. If you
come off as being too nervous, they will most likely focus on that,
and not the aspects that make you a great candidate. Be yourself, and
don&t let your nerves get the best of you!
2) Know the basics about the company you&re interviewing with-
Interviewers are often very impressed if you have done your research
and know information about the company you&re interviewing with. This
will definitely give you an advantage over other candidates in an
3) Use professional terminology- By using professional terminology,
you give yourself more credibility and your interviewer will see that
you demonstrate a good understanding of the field you&re entering into.
4) Practice makes perfect- Practicing an interview before you even go
into the actual interview can help calm your nerves and prepare you
for every situation you may encounter in a real interview.
5) Have a positive mindset- Being optimistic and positive about your
interview will help set the tone right when you walk in. If you go in
with the mindset that you will not land the internship, chances are
you won&t. Stay positive and your interview will go well from the start!
