My name is Shelby Sklar. I have just completed my junior year at the University of Florida. I will graduate in Spring 2012 with a double major in journalism and political science. Upon graduation, I plan on attending law school. In fact, I am currently preparing for the LSAT, which I am taking June 6th. Currently on campus, I am very involved in my sorority, Phi Mu. I hold multiple leadership positions within the chapter, including Date Function Chair and Recruitment Video Chair. My other positions on campus include Dance Marathon Captain, Greek Conduct Committee, Order of Omega and Greek Week. I am currently interning for the summer as a Communications Intern for The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. I value internships because they are a learning experience to help you understand the industry you are interested in by gaining firsthand experience through working in that field before entering the work force. Internships are also very valuable in this difficult economy and job industry because it allows you to get a “foot in the door” by meeting people already working in the industry who can help you obtain a job or put you in contact with other professionals in the industry. In my internship, I can already see that these are very valuable. I think other students would be interested in my experience because I have achieved some personal success through hard work and determination. Over the next year, I will be applying to law schools, waiting on admissions decisions and working through my senior year.
