Mood Lifting Meals

This post was written by Kate Guberman, our Campus Ambassador from Rutgers University.

Are you someone who has long days filled with school and internship work? Are you someone who finds it hard to roll out of the bed most of the morning? Or are you just someone who just enjoys a healthy lifestyle?

If you answered yes to any of these, then you are in for a real treat…I mean, literally, you can taste it.

I have come up with three mood-lifting meals that will not only save your day, but save your hunger too! I have also devised three great snacks that are not only nutritious and healthy, but definitely mood boosters!

Breakfast: Oatmeal.

Its whole grains and high levels of fiber will keep you feeling warm and happy all morning long, and keeping you full until lunch!

Bonus Tip: For healthier eyes and bones, cut up some bananas, or sprinkle in some strawberries. They’re both delicious and nutritious at the same time!

There we have it ladies and gentleman, a breakfast of champions!

Lunch: Whole-wheat wrap filled with grilled chicken, cheese, veggies, and your sauce of choice

Not only does the whole grain and fibrous wrap fulfill your hunger during your mid-day meal, but it leaves you feeling completely satisfied. The protein in the grilled chicken is also essential to a healthy diet, and it tastes great! Pair that up with a delicious cheese, some veggies, your sauce of choice, and your wrap is complete! This meal will prevent you from under-eating and overeating, and sustain your balance of a variety of foods.
Can it get any better than this?

Dinner: Fish and sweet potato with steamed veggies on the side and a side salad

Well, we all know the omega-3 fatty acids in fish are good for your heart and brain development and functionality. Fish has been shown to improve a vast amount of bodily functions, but specifically, it can improve your immunity, and it can help relieve depression and anxiety. Additionally, sweet potatoes have a lot of vitamins, as well as magnesium, the relaxation and anti-stress mineral. They are also quite essential to your iron levels. Pair these two items up with some steamed veggies such as broccoli, and cauliflower, and you are in for a real treat!

Who knew such wholesome and beneficial food could ever taste so good!?

Here are three great snacks that you can opt for, when you want to enjoy your day and your noshing!

1. Nuts: They’re the good kind of fat that we want to include in our diets. There are so many different types of nuts out there that you can select any nut, or a combination of nuts that your taste buds prefer!

2. Popcorn: Popcorn is a low-fat snack that tastes delicious, and is still healthy for someone trying to live a healthy lifestyle. Munching on some popcorn does not leave you with that feeling of a guilty indulgence, because it’s minimally processed, and one cup of air popped popcorn only contains 31 calories!

3. Dark Chocolate: This tasty snack has been proven to lower blood pressure, and lower stress and anxiety levels. End your day with some dark chocolate to feel the overall health and happiness of treating your body great!

So, there you have it, your mood lifting meals for whenever you are craving a pick-me-up kind of day.

Everyone deserves to be healthy, happy, and to feel good both inside and out. So why not owe your body a treat every once in a while and treat yourself to some good mood food!?
