My New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome to 2013! It's going to be an exciting here and I'm going to kick it off by personally bringing you new content every week day on To kick off official Internship Season, I wanted to make a list of some "Internship Resolutions". I'd love all of you to consider adding some of these to your personal lists!

Years ago as an intern and even today as an entrepreneur, I've had issues with taking myself seriously. I tend to cater to other people before catering to myself. If I'm working and a friend or family member calls, I pick up the phone, and will walk away from my desk and work to talk with them about anything. This year, I don't want to do that. If I focus on my work and learn to take myself and my goals seriously, I will be more efficient and effective. I will finish projects faster and I will be able to focus better without the constant distractions.

1. Take Yourself Seriously. Sometimes we just don't feel that we take ourselves seriously. When we don't take ourselves seriously, how can our friends and family? Start 2013 off right by setting goals and making sure you stick to them. If your friends or family try to interrupt or distract you, don't let them. Stick to your plan and it will help others respect your goals and dreams.

2. Learn To Say NO. You don't have to do everything all of the time - even when it comes to your friends. When you are invited to something, the answer doesn't always have to be yes. Time is the most precious thing you have. Think hard about WHO you want to spend your time with. I'd rather you be really involved with two things on campus, than "sorta" involved in five things. Think about how you spend your time and who you spend it with and try to prioritize.
