I’m currently a junior Music Business and Marketing major at Belmont University in Nashville, TN, and I’m set to graduate in Spring of 2013. I’m involved in a variety of activities on my college’s campus as well as in the Nashville community. I am a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta women’s fraternity, and I also participate in my university’s Engaged Scholars program, which requires students to complete a variety of hands-on learning experiences, including internships. In addition, I run my university’s TOMS Campus Club chapter, which involves the promotion of TOMS and its’ mission to provide shoes and the gift of sight to people who cannot afford shoes and/or glasses. I’m a member of Belmont Service Corps, which is a student run organization that provides music business students with the opportunity to volunteer at a variety of music industry events and functions, and finally, I am a part of my school’s orientation team and will be leading incoming students through my school’s “Welcome Week” activities and serve as a mentor to new students throughout their first year at Belmont.
I am currently a special events intern at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Central Florida chapter, and I have learned a lot of valuable lessons thus far, including office operations, employee relations, and non-profit management. I believe internships are integral to the college experience, because they help you find your perfect niche and career path within your general degree of study. I’m constantly on the search for great internships, and I hope to take part in an internship every semester leading up to my graduation, and I also plan on spending a semester in NYC, where I will take classes on the NYC music industry and intern at a company of my choice. College years are definitely a busy period of one’s life, but they’re also a time when you can truly experience and take advantage of a variety of opportunities that will point you in the direction of your perfect career.
