Interning in New York City can be an extremely hard transition, especially if you’re not familiar with the area. Even if you are from the area like me, it can still be hard to find your way around! The city is huge and it can be difficult to navigate it and find fun things to do. However, there are many iPhone apps that can help you out along the way.
Here are my top 3 apps that anybody interning in New York City will benefit from and will come in handy during your summer in the big apple!
1. HopStop: In my opinion, this app may be the best app ever created. Even though I’m from New York, I’m still not so great at navigating while in the city. All I do is punch in an address and HopStop automatically picks up your current location and tells you how to get where you need to go. It tells you exactly where to walk, what subways to take, if it would be better to take a cab, and basically every single thing you would ever need to know in order to get around in New York City. Quick tip: make sure to load your directions before going into the subway station! There is no service down there, and you will have to exit the subway in order to find service and load your directions. Plan in advance!
2. NYCWay: I newly discovered this app, but I am already in love. It literally has everything you would ever need to know about New York. If you are looking for a place to eat, you can go onto the app and categorize food places nearby by categories. You can also find way more than just food places. The app also has nightlife, coffee houses, a subway map, movies, weather, airports, banks, wifi, restrooms, literally EVERYTHING. I have yet to find an app that’s more handy. You can’t go wrong with this app.
3. Pulsd: The first 2 apps are great for navigating around the city and finding everything you need to know, but Pulsd is more for the fun stuff. Pulsd is a great app to figure out some fun things to do in your free time while interning in the city. The app offers a lot of discounts for cool places around the city. Some random ones I have seen offered were cheap rock climbing sessions, presales and coupons at clothing stores, a free day at the MoMA, and more. With this app you can ensure that you will never be bored during your time in the city.
Well there you have it! These are my top 3 apps for anyone planning to be interning in New York City for the summer. They are both functional and fun, making sure you are able to easily navigate the city while having a good time!
