What You Can Learn from Your Internship to Find a Job!

This blog was written by our Campus Ambassador from The Florida State University, Caitlin Pfaff. Caitlin is a Senior Marketing Major.

Internships are great for learning experience. Through my previous internships, I’ve learned about management, leading teams, professionalism, and so much more. But do you ever sit at your internship and think to yourself, “This is not what I want to be doing for the rest of my life?” I have too.

However, this could be one of the most beneficial parts of an internship. When Thomas Edison was on his search to create the perfect light bulb and after several failed attempts said, “We now know a thousand ways not to build a light bulb.” I remember my high school English teacher talking about his experiences growing up and how from one of his jobs, he learned what he didn’t want to do while also learning things he liked.

With my internships, I’ve learned that I like working in an office, enjoy working on projects, and like being surrounded by positive co-workers. Through this better understanding of myself, I feel confident that I will be able to find my dream job when I graduate college. Here are some of the questions you can ask yourself to find your perfect job:

Where do I want to work?
What kind of work environment do I like being in?
What are some of my strongest skills?
What tasks do I not enjoy doing?
Where do I want my job to take me in the future?
What do I want to learn?
Who do I want to work with?

Are there any other questions you ask yourself to help figure out what kind of job you’d like one day?
