The interview process can be intimidating, but if you begin to prepare a few days in advance you can make sure you are armed with the essentials. I would never leave for an interview before doing my research, printing multiple copies of my résumé and assembling my interview bag. My interview bag is filled with a lot of stuff, but it all has a purpose.
The Write Stuff
My leather bound portfolio and résumé are the first things I pack in my interview bag. I bring at least two to three pens along with me, and make a conscious effort to record notes throughout the interview. I later incorporate my notes in a thank you card or use them to refresh my memory on the culture of the company.
Another Set of Eyes
I always carry an extra set of contacts or glasses. You never know when a contact may decide to irritate you right before an interview or decide to pop out of your eye!
Fresh breath is important but chewing gum is not professional. I prefer to swipe my teeth with a Colgate Wisp or freshen up with an Altoids mint.
Snacks to go
I like to pack almonds or a protein bar, because I know they are snacks that will curb my appetite for an extended period of time.
I always have a Tide to Go pen on me in case I spot a stain just before an interview. I also love Bear Naked Nail Wipes by Josie Maran. A candidate with chipped or unprofessional looking nails can be distracting to an interviewer.
You always want to be mentally prepared for any interview, but don’t forget to make sure you have all the stuff you’ll need to shine! What do you pack your interview bag with?
